Shopping for The Dress can be a girl’s dream come true — or a nightmare for the ages. Doing your homework before you shop will help you look and feel your best when the time comes to float down that aisle in a sea of white silk and organza.
Sure, you’ve thumbed through bridal magazines, and you’ve even clipped a few photos. But if you don’t have a good sense of what kind of evening gown is most flattering for your specific body type, those picture-perfect gowns might fall flat on your buxom or svelte frame. Before you Say Yes to the Dress, head to your favorite department store or designer boutique and try on a few non-wedding evening gowns. This will help you determine whether you’re looking fab or flab in a mermaid silhouette, perfect or poofy in a princess ballgown, awesome or swimming in an empire waist, without being distracted by all the wedding hoopla.
Most importantly, be honest with yourself and don’t try and fit into a gown that’s not your style just to appease a friend or family member. You will look your radiant best when you feel comfortable and confident in your gown of choice, and you’ll have the fabulous photos to cherish for a lifetime.

The Herlong Mansion in Micanopy was the ideal setting for the vintage-inspired Florida wedding of Shanna and CJ. Handmade details were paramount for this April bride, who scoured Etsy.com for unique accessories like a Mrs. Whiteside hanger for her wedding gown and a floral accented seersucker collar and leash for her beloved golden retriever. We’re certain Frank Sinatra was crowing from above. Swoon!
